Strawberries and Song

Strawberry Tea

The sun had its hat on and a gentle breeze joined in for the annual Strawberries & Cream Tea at the Chiswick Nursing Centre. Residents and their loved ones gathered in the garden, enjoying the dappled shade and the sweet scent of summer – ready for a treat not just for the palate, but the ears too.

Enter Jean Claude, better known as “Mr Motown,” with vocal cords smoother than clotted cream and humour as light as a Victoria sponge. A true talent, Jean Claude first wowed the nation on Opportunity Knocks in 1976 with his real-life brothers, “The Brothers” (clearly a family who doesn’t waste time on band name brainstorming). They scooped two top-ten hits and have been spreading joy ever since.

These days, Jean Claude flies solo – and what a flight it is! From Tipperary to Summer Holiday, he whisked us through decades of feel-good hits, mixing Motown magic with a healthy dose of charm and cheek.

We clapped, we swayed, we sang, and yes – there may have been a few air tambourines. In between songs, his humour had us chuckling and chatting like old friends. It was an afternoon of smiles, sunshine, and strawberry bliss – a truly special day that hit all the right notes.
