Park Life

The sun was out, there was blue sky, the trees and flowers had burst into life. What better way to welcome Spring and make us all feel better than to get outside and enjoy it?

And so it was that a group of the Chiswick Nursing Centre’s residents, accompanied by a couple of relatives and our activities’ coordinators, Chris and Diana, took a trip to the local Ravenscourt Park. The 13 hectare open space is a short distance from the care home and boasts wildlife habitats, play and sports facilities, a popular tea house and a garden centre.

The park was officially opened in 1888 but its history goes back much further. In medieval times, Paddenswick or Palingswick Manor stood nearby. Indeed, Alice Perrers, the mistress of King Edward III, lived there in the 14th century.

But none of those thoughts were in our visitors’ heads; they were just delighted to be there. “It was such fun to see the spring blossoms and listen to the garden bird song,” one commented.

And, of course, we all know how being out in nature is good for both mind and body, as evidenced by the smiles all round as they took in the spring sunshine. A lovely afternoon was had by all and is sure to have lasting benefit.
