The ancient Chinese philosopher, Confucius wrote: ‘Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.’ CNC residents certainly don’t have to forsake this pleasure as there is a music session somewhere in the building virtually every afternoon. When 2.30 pm strikes on a Wednesday, it is for those on our Buckingham Suite and on Thursday, it is music time for our Belgravia Suite.
These sessions are designed to create a fun and relaxing environment where our residents can relish their favourite tunes, engage in undemanding social activities, and simply unwind. Whether it is singing along to old classics, tapping with the beat or sharing stories about what the music invokes, there’s something for everyone. We even provide maracas and tambourines for those who want to play along.
Studies have shown that music engages both sides of the brain. It can relieve depression and anxiety, help communication, aid relaxation and has proven benefits for those with Parkinson’s Disease or Dementia. Toe-tapping, hand clapping, singing and playing a simple instrument such as the maracas or tambourine also provides gentle exercise and supports fine motor skills. Singing, of course, regulates breathing and above all, is jolly good fun which lifts the spirits.
Families are welcome to join in our sessions. It all promotes a sense of community, togetherness, joy and a pleasure we cannot do without.
